A graduate in MECHANICAL ENGINEERING from National Institute of Technology, Warangal (then called Regional Engineering College), Lakshminarayana was among the toppers in Civil Services. He had chosen IPS as his career and he was allotted Maharashtra cader. He is remembered for his stint as SP of Nanded. He then worked in the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad. Keen to work for the CBI, he opted to be deputed to the agency as DIG in Hyderabad on June 12, 2006.

Nobody knows much about Lakhsminarayana till he took up the investigation against YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.

The only time when his name came into focus was during the investigation into the multi-crore accounting fraud by Satyam Ramalinga Raju. And just because he has taken up the Jagan case now, people have started casting aspersions against Lakshminarayana.

Very few people know that he travels by ordinary bus to villages when he goes on a specific investigation. He is very cautious about the media; and so, he takes enough care that his investigations are kept secret.

V.V. Lakshmi Narayana, a CBI Joint Director (JD) and IPS civil servant, is renowned for leading the investigations into Accounting scandals, Illegal mining scams, Encounter killings by police, and Arrest of Y.S.Jagan for Disproportionate Assets cases involving mafia, businessmen, realtors, corporates, bureaucrats, police, and politicians - ministers.
